- To contribute to the linguistic normalisation of Basque by delivering added value services connected with the use of the language. To help in adapting and updating Basque to meet new needs and those which culture and science will have in the future. To partner public and private entities which research into and foster the normalisation and spreading of Basque.

- To promote the development and spreading of specialist technical languages in Basque. To develop vocabularies and terminology and/or lexicography projects connected with Basque. To advise on and coordinate the various terminological projects in the Basque Country.

- To analyse the precise evolution of the Basque lexicon by researching into and compiling the corpus of the modern Basque lexicon.

- Taking part in natural language processing projects. To promote and drive research in the field of applied linguistics. The setting up of modern systems for spreading the various lines of applied linguistic research, building in new technologies in computers and telecommunications.

- Organisation and maintenance of a terminology database and a lexicography database. Organisation of terminology and lexicography courses. Attendance at conferences and talks about lexicography and terminology. Setting up and maintenance of a telematic queries service.

- To update Basque either through its own production or through the translation of texts from other languages.

- To maintain cultural relationships and partnership agreements with universities and institutions created for and dedicated to language research.

- Education and the inclusion of internees in research projects.
